Wahab Riaz doubtful for the opening match against India
Wahab Riaz presence in the crucial opening match against India is doubtful. The Pakistani fast bowler is going through a knee pain before the game against India. He is expected to miss the first country’s game of Champions Trophy on June 4.
However, Azhar Mehmood the Pakistan bowling coach has dismissed the reports of Riaz injury’s seriousness. He said there is no need to panic, because the fast bowler would most probably recover in time. Media sources raise the concerns, after the pacer missed the team’s practice session on Tuesday. The good news is that he finished his gym session that shows he is ready to face the challenge against the arch rivals.
Pakistan team is not in a position to lose any of its experienced players, as they already have an inexperienced side. There is no big name, playing in their squad. Wahab Riaz is one of the prominent players in the squad, after Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from International cricket in February 2017. This time, the responsibility of team’s success is more on the shoulders of bowlers than the inexperienced and inconsistent batting lineup. Wahab is one of the prominent bowlers, who can play a great role in Pakistan’s success.
Earlier, Umar Akmal was excluded and sent back to Pakistan from England. For the last couple of years, he is not a regular part of Pakistan team and this time he failed a fitness test. Several former cricketers criticized Akmal for his non-serious attitude towards his career. They said, he is digging his own grave in the international cricket. Waqar Younis heavily criticized Umar Akmal and said that he should look into the mirror and must realize what wrong he is doing to his cricket career.
Pakistan and India matches are known as the mother of all battles. India has a better batting lineup and they have an edge over Pakistan due to recent success. As far as the Champions Trophy history is concerned, Pakistan has a better record and an edge over India with a lead of 2-1.
