Pakistan beat South Africa by 19 runs (D/L method) in an important match on Wednesday
Pakistan defeated South Africa by 19 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis Method. Hassan Ali took a complete turn around and took three crucial wickets in the match to restrict opponents to just 219 for the loss of eight wickets. The game is another rain effected ICC Champions Trophy 2017 match, where Pakistan overcame all the odds against themselves.
At he end of 27 overs, Pakistan managed 119 for the loss of three wickets, before the rain washed out the rest of the play. Once again, another Champions Trophy match resulted under the Duckworth-Lewis method. As per the calculations, Pakistan needed 101 runs in 27 overs and they were 19 runs ahead of the required score. The score gave them the edge and they finished the game as winners.
Both Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam contributed 31 runs each and were the top scorers in the crucial match. Fakhar Zaman was the debutant and he entertain the fans with his attacking shots. Apart from them, Mohammad Hafeez scored 26 runs. He was the last batsman dismissed before rain interrupted.
Just three days after the horror show against arch-rivals India, when Pakistan conceeded 319, Pakistan team transformed into a better side against South Africa. Before Hassan Ali took three wickets, including striking twice in two balls, spinners did the initial damage.
After their top order slump, David Miller contributed 75 not out and received good support from Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada. Morris and Rabada scored 28 and 26 runs, respectively. Imad Wasim put South Africa in tatters after dismissing AB de Villiers on a duck that was his first in 221 one-day international career.
South Africa came into the match against Pakistan as firm favourites, but with some exceptional bowling and fielding, they were only restricted to 219.
