2nd April 2018 will be… Children’s Book Day
Books are an important part of our daily routine. From bedtime stories to textbooks and from course books to favorite novels, books have always been a man’s best friend through and through. Due to emerging technology and advancement of latest gadgets, printed written literature has taken a back seat and e-books have replaced a good paperback. No one can deny the feel and smell of a book is also an experience while going through a story. So to commemorate the art of book reading and to bring new generations this peace of mind, International Children’s Book Day was introduced.
The event goes back to 1967 when International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) started this venture to spread awareness in the younger generation about reading books. The project since then has been working successfully towards its cause and every year the day is celebrated to highlight the importance of a good book in a person’s life.
International Children’s Book Day:
The major theme of this day is to shine a light on the importance of education and literary awareness. This event is celebrated internationally because it is the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen on 2nd April in different schools and public libraries and the younger generation is the main target of this venture. Many famous authors and illustrators are invited to give the children motivation and inspiration to be better in this field. Books reading, writing competitions, and many such activities are held to boost the importance of literary awareness.
Importance of event:
A well-read child is more grounded and meticulous, then the vice versa. Books have always been a great part of culturing a society, with their power of developing patience in a person. A good book is always the best companion, and because of advanced technology, we’ve forgotten that, giving its place to e-readers and mobile devices. One would argue that the act of awareness will fulfill by educating children through these devices, but the experience is the same as having a video call and meeting the person in real life. Book reading in children is utmost important because it teaches then discipline and feeds their imagination.
Ways to celebrate this day:
Many events related to this day happen cross-country, so one way is to join such event with family and young ones. If you’re in for a more personal and homey approach, take out those childhood books, sit with the younger children and go down memory lane. One can also visit the library or bookstore to enjoy this day’s celebration with their children fully.
Days like these are a basic need of today’s generation for developing character and a better understanding of life. Books are immensely important in teaching life lessons because one lives the life of the other by reading about their hardship. So gear up and get ready to celebrate this amazing day because it’s just around the corner on April 2nd. May this day help our next generation in developing a sense of importance for education and also help the young ones foster imagination for great things in their young minds.
